Grove, Klunk and D’Orsie Announce Funding for Conservation Projects

HARRISBURG – Three conservation projects in York County will receive nearly $1.2 million in funding through the Growing Greener Plus Program, House Appropriations Chairman Seth Grove (R-Dover), Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Rep. Joe D’Orsie (R-Manchester) announced.

The funding, administered through the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), will be used for Oil Creek floodplain restoration, the Stillmeadow Public-Private Collaboration for a stormwater and stream restoration study in Manchester Township, and for the design and permitting for a flood plan restoration project in Hanover. 

The $793,446 in funding for Oil Creek, which runs through Penn, Heidelberg and Jackson townships and Spring Grove, was awarded to the York County Rail Trail Authority. Manchester Township received $256,554 for the Stillmeadow project and Hanover received $139,336 for its project. 

“These three projects are instrumental in water management, but also in preserving our cherished environmental and recreational opportunities here in York County,” the three lawmakers said. “We thank DEP for recognizing the importance of these projects.” 

Growing Greener grants are awarded for projects in three categories: watershed restoration and protection; abandoned mine reclamation; and abandoned oil and gas well plugging projects.
